How do you know Selena Gomez has broken up with Justin Bieber? She’s with her friends, she’s smiling, and she looks like she doesn’t have a care in the world. Over the weekend, Gomez was seen on a pretty nice yacht with three friends, floating around Sydney’s harbor in Australia. She looked relaxed in a tiny two-piece bikini: reading, swimming around the water, and acting like a normal 25-year-old on vacation.
The only thing you may notice that doesn’t fit the picture are all the scars on Gomez’s body after her recent kidney transplant surgery. The scars would make most people self-conscious, but Gomez seems to be oblivious to everything around her.
Selena, who had the surgery in September last year, received a kidney from her best friend Francia Raisa, which she needed to survive Lupus.
She’s been very open about sharing photos of her post-surgery body in the past. In the photo above, Gomez posted a shot of the scar on her abdomen. She even revealed a new scar on her left inner-thigh. The mark is unlikely to be from the transplant but rather from the emergency operation Selena when one of her arteries ruptured hours after her kidney transplant.
Most people don’t know of Gomez’s second procedure, but doctors acted quickly and had to remove a vein from her leg to build a new artery and keep the kidney in place. Selena received a kidney from her best friend Francia Raisa, which she needed to survive Lupus. We’re gonna be honest with you though — it doesn’t look like Raisa didn’t make this Australian vacation. (We’re just saying.)
But Raisa has a good reason for not being on vacation with Gomez. She’s, currently starring in ABC’s Grown-ish. She recently opened up about her feelings after donating a kidney to Selena. “I had a way that I wanted to tell her when I made the decision.” Raisa said. “I knew it was gonna happen, I just needed that time, like it’s a big thing. So I hang up, and I call my social worker, and I’m angry.”
And [Selena] told me, ‘’It’s gonna be hard: the recipient is gonna glow, and she’s gonna recover a lot faster than the donor is ‘cause she’s receiving something she needs. You’re losing something you don’t need to lose. It’s gonna be hard.’ And it was very hard. Selena and I both went through a depression.”
The good news from these new photos is that Gomez appears to be recovering well and trying to move on from the surgery as well as her up-down relationship with Bieber. It’s obvious she’s on her way to a 100 percent recover.
